Information
Each person is unique as their tattoo, but most professional tattoos take 5 to 10 treatments. Home made tattoos take 1 to 4 treatments. Laser sessions are spaced out 6 to 12 weeks apart or longer. The number of treatments depends on the amount of ink used, type of ink, depth of ink placed in skin, location, age, colors, and each person’s individual health considerations.
Do all colors of ink disappear equally as well?
No, but black ink removes the best. Red, orange, pink, and warmer colors respond well. Purple and yellow is variable but usually removes well. Now (since May 2008) we are able to more successfully remove green and teal blue ink. White, flesh tones, and permanent make-up can turn darker with laser, and must be tested before treatment.
Will the tattoo completely disappear?
In many cases, yes. However, it is very important to know that over 100 types of tattoo inks are used today. Without standardized inks it makes it difficult to predict the degree of removal of any tattoo.
The laser uses an intense beam of light to remove and lighten the tattoo, without harming the surrounding healthy skin cells. The light energy may be delivered as a continuous wave of light or in pulses. When the ink particles of the tattoo absorb the light from the laser, they are broken up into tiny fragments. These fragments are then absorbed through the body's natural cleansing mechanism, fading and removing the tattoo. This cleansing process generally takes several weeks.
We offer complete removal, lightening, or partial removal of tattoos. An example of partial tattoo removal is removing a name inside of a tattoo banner, skillfully removing the name without disturbing the surrounding tattoo.
We encourage patients to consider lightening existing tattoos before applying a professional cover-up. Existing tattoos are often visible underneath a cover-up. Lightening your existing tattoo creates the opportunity for a perfect cover-up from your artist. We welcome input from your tattoo artist to best determine the level of lightness required for the best look of your body art.
Aftercare: The tattoo removal laser treatment may create a superficial burn wound. Some clients may experience bruising or swelling. There is immediate whitening of the treated area, which usually lasts for several minutes. Many clients then develop blisters, crusts, or scabs within 12-72 hours, which may last for 1-2 weeks or more. The treated areas may be pink or pale after the scab separates. Loss of skin pigment in the treated area is common, and is usually temporary. Healing is usually complete by 6-8 weeks.
1. Keep the treated area clean and dry while it is healing. Clean the area gently with soap and water and then gently pat the area dry.
2. You may apply cool compresses as necessary for 24 hours after the laser treatment to help reduce discomfort and inflammation.
3. Do not pick at the scab or allow the skin to become scraped, as this may result in infection and scarring. Shaving should be avoided in the treated area until it is completely healed.
4. Do not wear makeup or any cream or medication unless recommended by our office for 48 hours.
5. Wear a sunblock with an SPF of 25 or higher over the area for 3 months following the treatment.
6. If the area looks infected (honey colored crusting and oozing or spreading redness), if you experience an unusual discomfort or bleeding, if any other complications develop, or if you have any questions or concerns, contact us immediately.
Every session you can treat about 1,5-2,5dm², thats usually the same area as you hand.
