FAQ- Frequently Asked Questions about Arctic Fox

Why don´t you sell all Arctic Fox colors? Why don't you have all Arctic Fox shades in stock? Following the new REACH law which is now applied within the EU, not all shades of Arctic Fox colors are allowed to be sold in Europe. The colours we sell are specifically developed by Arctic Fox for the European market and do not contain any banned substances. The colors we sell are just as vibrant and bright as the ones we had before, but we neither will nor can sell the American shades such as different neon colors or Arctic mist diluter etc, it is simply illegal for us to sell them in Sweden.

The following colors have been reformulated for our European customers: Blue Jean Baby, Cosmic Sunshine, Frose, Poison, Poseidon, Purple AF, Virgin Pink, Sunset Orange, and Wrath. We are working every day to make ALL Arctic Fox Colors available in our EU formulation. We have also added the following new colors available to European customers only in our EU formulation: Aurora Kiss, Emerald Fortune, Purple Madness.

What is the difference between the new REACH approved colors and the original? Some chemical compositions used in hair dye must be registered in order to meet federal regulatory requirements which vary per region. The difference in the formulas are slight changes in the chemical compositions in order to meet each region’s requirements. The new formula is still the  long-lasting, highly conditioning, and DIY friendly quality that you are used to from Arctic Fox. Our formula has been updated for the European regions only. The new EU certified formula, along with our packaging update was made in order to meet the federal regulatory requirements in order for Arctic Fox products to be sold in stores across Europe.

Why has Arctic Fox changed packaging and size? AF are looking at long-term solutions to becoming more sustainable and felt that moving into new regions was a good starting point. We went with aluminum tubes for many reasons:

  • Protection from Light and Air: aluminum provides excellent protection against light and air, helping to maintain the stability of the hair colorant. This is crucial for preventing oxidation and preserving the color’s integrity.
  • Barrier Properties: aluminum is impermeable to gasses and moisture, providing an effective barrier that helps prevent the penetration of external elements. This barrier enhances the shelf life of the hair color.
  • Recyclability: aluminum is highly recyclable, and recycling aluminum requires significantly less energy compared to producing new aluminum. This aligns with our focus as a company on sustainable packaging choices.
  • Durability: aluminum tubes are generally more durable and less prone to damage or breakage. This durability can be beneficial for products that may be subject to rough handling during shipping or use.
  • Ease of dispensing: aluminum tubes have precision dispensing features, allowing for better control over the amount of product used. This can be especially important for hair color applications, where precise measurements are required.

How long does Arctic Fox hair dye last?  Arctic Fox is a semi permanent hair dye, on average the color typically lasts between 4-8 weeks on bleached hair and about 2-6 weeks on unbleached hair. We have formulated our color to be one of the longest lasting semi-permanents available but for the best results you will have to take care of your color. The result can depend on a few factors such as the color you are using, the level of your hair, and your personal hair care regimen.

Here are some tips to help you with the longevity:
-Shampoo in cold water (as cold as you can stand it)
-Use sulphate free and silicone free shampoo and conditioner, color safe if possible!
-Invest in dry shampoo (frequent shampooing will fade the color)
-Stay away from alcohol based styling products, since they are drying and will fade the color
-Turn down temperature settings on heat styling tools (high heat will strip color)
-Avoid chlorinated water and saltwater particularly, but even freshwater! Wear a swimming cap if you plan to swim, for the best results!
-Add in some leftover color to your conditioner to keep color fresher, longer!

Lastly, don't worry too much, we have more color for you if you don't like cold showers 😝

Do I need to bleach my hair before using Arctic Fox?
You can definitely dye your natural hair without bleaching or lightening! But you will get different results depending on what level your hair is. If you want the brightest color, you'll need to be in a blonde range of around level 8 or above for most AF shades. If you have darker hair, the color will become dark and subtle, which can show up as a colorful tint in sunlight and bright indoor lighting! However, it may be difficult to see in regular indoor lighting and pastel shades most likely won’t show up. We always recommend doing a strand test to see how the color turns out before applying it all over! 😊 You can read more about different "hair levels" at the link: WTF is my "Hair Level"?! Can I use Arctic Fox on Gray Hair? Generally, yes! It can be hard to say for sure since unbleached hair can vary a lot in how well it takes color, but if you stick with darker and more highly pigmented colors you should get at least a tint of color to gray hair! If your hair is more of a dark gray, the color might turn out a few shades darker and more subtle than it would look on lighter shades of hair, and unbleached hair does tend to lose color faster as well.

What is Arctic Toner, and will it turn my hair white?
Arctic Toner is NOT a thinner like arctic mist was, it is a neutralizing toner that contains pigments to help neutralize unwanted yellow or brass tones in bleached hair. Arctic Toner gives you the best base to get all other AF colors true or to freshen up your blonde. DO NOT mix with other hair colors.

Why don't you sell Arctic Mist Diluter anymore? What can I use to dilute instead if I want a pastel colour?
Following the new REACH law which is now applied within the EU, not all shades of Arctic Fox colors are allowed to be sold in Europe. The colours we sell are specifically developed by Arctic Fox for the European market and do not contain any banned substances. Arctic Mist Diuter is not available for the European market yet so it is simply illegal for us to sell it in Sweden. But we are keeping our fingers crossed that AF will find a solution and start producing an approved variant. In the meantime, you can use conditioner as a diluter :) If you do decide to use a conditioner to dilute a color, choosing one that is colorless, sulfate-free, and silicone-free will give you the best chance at a good result!

How long is the shelf life of Arctic Fox after opening the bottle? When you open the bottle for the first time, the color stays in the bottle for about 12 months if you don't store it in strong heat and direct sunlight.
